ESL can make for some great stories...

My aunt works with kids in the Boston area that need a helping hand with their schooling.

The kids can see her for various reasons, from disabilities to disorders to just needing to catch up. As part of her job, she does evaluations on the children who are sent to her. She recently sent us this story of a kid who was being evaluated by one of her co-workers.

Apparently there is a test that kids can take to determine if they are ready to be placed in classes at a certain level. One little Chinese boy who did not seem to be fluent in English took this test and passed with flying colors. In fact, he got every single question correct.

His teacher was certain that he must have cheated, and confronted him about it. She told him that she knew he must have cheated, so he'd better just come out and admit it.

Now keep in mind that these kids are pretty young. This boy was only in second or third grade, and was pretty intimidated by the accusations of the teacher, but since he had not in fact cheated, he stood his ground.

Sheepishly, he looked her in the eye and told her that he did not cheat.

She reiterated that she knew he must have cheated, and the he needed to tell her how he cheated.

Again he fearfully insisted, " I did not cheat!"

Still suspicious, the teacher opined that if he really didn't cheat, he should prove his sincerity.

"Look me in the eyes," she demanded, "raise your hand, and swear."

Wanting desperately to appease her, the boy solemnly lifted his head, looked her nervously in the eyes, raised his hand, and earnestly replied:

"Fuck."
